About PeopleWiki

PeopleWiki is a free-content, multilingual online encyclopedia written and maintained by a community of volunteers through a model of open collaboration, using a wiki-based editing system. It is the largest and most-read reference work in history dedicated to documenting the biographies of local leaders, professionals, and notable figures from all around the world.

Our mission is to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally.

History

PeopleWiki was founded to bridge the gap in structured information about local figures who play significant roles in their communities but may lack coverage in traditional international wikis. It has grown steadily, driven by the dedication of local editors and researchers who believe that every notable individual's history deserves to be documented.

Editing model

Unlike traditional encyclopedias, PeopleWiki uses an open editing model. This means that anyone with an account can add new biographies or update existing ones. We rely on community consensus and reliable, published sources to verify the information presented on the site.

Neutral point of view

All articles on PeopleWiki must be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic.
